How to change the site title tag

By default your store is using Company name field from General Settings :: Company Options for the part of TITLE tag of all pages. You can control how it's done in General Settings :: SEO options. But most people prefer not to use Company name for title and set something else in it. To do this, you will have to modify home.tpl template.

1) Click "Edit templates", click "customer/", click "home.tpl"

2) Replace this code:

<TITLE>
{if $config.SEO.page_title_format eq "A"}
{section name=position loop=$location}
{$location[position].0|escape}
{if not %position.last%} :: {/if}
{/section}
{else}
{section name=position loop=$location step=-1}
{$location[position].0|escape}
{if not %position.last%} :: {/if}
{/section}
{/if}
</TITLE>

to this one:

<TITLE>
{if $config.SEO.page_title_format eq "A"}
{section name=position loop=$location}
{if not %position.first%}{$location[position].0|escape}
{else}{$lng.txt_site_title}{/if}
{if not %position.last%} :: {/if}
{/section}
{else}
{section name=position loop=$location step=-1}
{if not %position.first%}{$location[position].0|escape}
{else}{$lng.txt_site_title}{/if}
{if not %position.last%} :: {/if}
{/section}
{/if}
</TITLE>

3) Now, you can modify text variable "txt_site_title" via Languages menu to set TITLE for your store:

  • Click Languages
  • Select English
  • Select TOPIC : TEXT
  • in filter field enter "txt_site_title"
  • click [Go]
  • change VALUE for listed variable to the title you want to use for your store.

If you want to have greater control over Title, Meta description and Meta keywords tags of all pages in your store (categories, products and static info pages), consider getting our "Stomping the Search Engines" Customization . It will give you ultimate control over your meta tags.
